Immerse yourself in the Northern New Mexico’s luminous light and inspiring landscape with other artist's while developing plein air painting techniques that capture stunning locales in the medium of oil painting. Oils are excellent for painting the overlapping tones, textures and light patterns of this compelling geological terrain. This terrain has riveted the imagination of past artists who were drawn to this area, such as Georgia O’Keeffe and the Taos Painters. Working on location at Casa Nambé and on plein air excursions, participants will explore color mixing, paint consistency and brushwork, atmospheric value scales, as well as landscape composition and perspective.

Participants will enhance their painting skills while experiencing the unique culture and natural beauty of Northern New Mexico. This will be an intimate experience for 7 people whose interest and passion for Art is a wonderful commonality. Excursions will take us to the famous shrine of Chimayó, Ghost Ranch, the Chama River landscape, the Santa Fe Fine Art Museum, the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum, and Santa Fe galleries. Workshop limited to 7 participants.

Students work on painting principles of composition, color, value and paint application. Michele demonstrates various stages in the painting process. The series begins in November with still life painting to establish basic painting skills. Later in the series, the class paints together from a large landscape image or from their own reference material, working toward actual plein air painting in the field.

This is a chance to get professional feedback on your work while you are painting. Class size is limited to 7 students each month. Portable Easel and pre-registration are required.
